GemStone Systems Delivers On-Demand Data Virtualization on IBM BladeCenter Platform to Power Financial Applications

Beaverton, OR and New York, NY – November 7, 2006 – GemStone Systems, the leading provider of the Enterprise Data Fabric, today announced that it will deliver GemFire, a distributed data management and virtualization solution, on the IBM BladeCenter Platform.

xFire, which consists of the GemFire Enterprise Data Fabric (EDF) on the IBM BladeCenter Platform, is a comprehensive hardware and software solution that enables advanced data access, sharing and distribution from edge applications to core applications in real-time, with no data latency. The integrated offering provides significant business process improvement and increased profitability for financial organizations by virtualizing data across the enterprise, ensuring data intensive operations perform with no degradation in performance or quality of service.

Today many grid and high performance computing environments are reaching limits due to the inability to deliver data quickly. This solution will help clients drive new levels of innovation and business insight by helping to eliminate the bottlenecks found in data intensive computing environments.

“Explosive trends such as electronic trading and grid computing coupled with surging data volumes pose both an opportunity and challenge to financial organizations,” noted Juan Menendez, SVP of business development, GemStone Systems. “In order to effectively share resources across distributed enterprise applications, firms must be able to leverage data across multiple sources in real-time, while ensuring data integrity. By deploying GemFire on IBM’s BladeCenter, many of our financial service customers have realized the benefits of a scalable, highly-available middle-tier data backbone that can feed enterprise wide applications and business processes from a single resource, significantly lowering operating costs.”

“Several investment banking and securities trading firms have deployed IBM BladeCenter servers strategically for data center optimization The IBM BladeCenter Platform is an ideal platform for server consolidation and grid environments as it centralizes servers for increased flexibility, ease of maintenance, reduced cost and streamlined human resources,” said Juhi Jotwani, director of IBM BladeCenter Solutions. “The combination of the blade servers from IBM and high performance data virtualization software from GemStone will enable the world’s leading financial services firms, to extend the applicability of the low cost blade architecture to a new class of critical data intensive applications for their business.”

GemStone and IBM will present xFire at the Enterprise Data Fabric (EDF) Forum: Low Latency Data Infrastructures for Trading and Grid Based Analytics, November 9, 2006 at the W Hotel Times Square.
