PRESS RELEASE

Executives from GemStone Systems, Bear Stearns, JP Morgan and IBM to Discuss the Merits and Pitfalls of Grid Computing

NEW YORK , JUNE 17, 2005 - A collection of financial and technology industry veterans will participate in a panel examining the role of emerging infrastructure strategies, such as service-oriented and distributed data architectures built upon grid computing networks. The panel is taking place at the Securities Industry Association (SIA) Technology Management Conference on Wednesday, June 22 in New York .

The panel will consist of Buzz Moschetti, chief architecture officer, Bear Stearns; Adrian Kunzle, managing director, head of architecture, JP Morgan Investment Bank; Shankar Iyer, executive vice president, marketing and strategy, GemStone Systems; and Kevin Pleiter, global grid solutions executive, financial services sector, IBM. The panel will be moderated by Daniel Greller, senior vice president, chief technology officer, Legg Mason Wood Walker.

To cope with increased data volumes, most firms have added significant amounts of new hardware, built out service-oriented and distributed data architectures or introduced a combination of multiple components of those infrastructure strategies.

Service-oriented architectures (SOAs) built upon grid infrastructure have been successful in creating the groundwork for flexible networks that are able to handle multiple tasks without experiencing processing power bottlenecks.  A firm-wide distributed data architecture that supports data virtualization and low data latency is the key to enabling the effective utilization of these high-power, low-cost computing systems.

The introduction of SOAs and data grid networks also present many pitfalls. The panel session will address the business drivers for making the move to "new" architectures, the challenges that must be addressed and the resulting benefits from adopting more flexible environments.

The panel will take place at both 1:45 pm and 3:00 pm on Wednesday, June 22 in the Bryant Suite, second floor, at the Hilton Hotel, 1335 Avenue of the Americas (between 53 rd and 54 th Streets). Attendance is limited to paid SIA attendees and media.
